I don’t feel like smiling today.

I don’t feeling like smiling today, but I’m gonna smile and do it anyway. I’m gonna smile from ear to ear and let the whites of my teeth glimmer and show no fear. I’m gonna simile even though I know society and the world has mapped out my future for me. You see, as a young black individual, statistically, I’m doomed to fail, be on crack or end up in jail. Relying on the government, for beneficial support, splashed all over the news paper headlines, for gang crimes on the streets. Be the center of attention, when I ever I walk down a quite street, women hold their bags, and stair at their feet.
Gun crime and knife crime associated with we, when will we get a break and finally be free? When will the hate crime towards blacks subside, so we can all get on with our damn lives?
Do you understand what I mean; do you feel what I say? That really we have a lot to be afraid. See, the struggle is still there, and clear in the air, with racist on the increase, this defiantly aint fair.
The stop and searches, the routine check’s, the police are on our back’s, that make’s us never forget, were seen as problematic vermin, of the night who are only here on this earth, Don't you see that they want us outta sight.
You see, I don’t feel like smiling today, but I’m gonna smile and well I’m gonna do it anyway. I’m gonna smile knowing that there’s ignorant people, out there such as, BNP Nick Griffin, who’s wrapped up in his own vision, of a 95% white Britain, this aint a world that I fit in. Jokers, contradicts, stereotypes of our black life. Telling us that we need, and must conform, just to fit in with your so called “WHITE” right life. Conform to your ways, religion, speech and dress. When we blacks have been forced to conform, from birth, just to make it on this earth. You see ignorance is bliss, as people are afraid, afraid, of the unknown, and seek solitude as if it was bliss.
You see I don’t feel like smiling today, but I’m sure as hell gonna do it anyway. I’m gonna smile even though I’m seen as a minority, I’m considered as a treat that you can disrespect. I’m gonna smile even tough when we blacks achieve something in life; it’s always flipped around to make you look nice. To increase your self a steam, a touch or two, and Flemish your ego don’t be a fool.
We’ve made it through the Pitts of slavery, a harrowing way of life that we faced, and we’ll make it through a lot more I guarantee you this.
So I'm gonna smile, cause that’s all I can do, to help
me get through, the discrimination that we face daily. I’m gonna smile and separate the real from the non-real and focus on a better life, live for me and only me. I gonna smile for my children, so they can see that despite our tortured history, that we can smile and rise above it and show our foes that YES! This door is close.
So when you feel like you don’t want to smile, when times are hard and you can’t see a way past. Just plant a smile upon your face, and keep the faith, that everything will be OK. And just remember that,
I don’t feel like smiling today, but I’m gonna smile, and do it anyway.
I'm gonna smile.

I love how you express yourself through poetry. I try and do it sometimes but I think I'm better at appreciating good poetry than actually writing it lol.

Hey Stephanie, thank you for the feed back. I think you should keep trying to write a poem, who's knows a wave of inspiration will hit at some point.
